Changes for Twitter

As you know Twitter is currently the hotspot on the internet these days and probably will be for a while. I don't know if Twitter is revolutionary in terms of technology, as it is an extention of other networking formats. It is innovative and yes even revolutionary in the way people interact through social media and is changing the way people communicate.

Twitter is used for both business and pleasure but is really dominated by marketing, tech talk and news entitys. Those in the know are quickly realizing the many advantages of microblogging and how to incorporate the lightning fast exchange of information into their communication channels.

Along with what is new and innovative comes much conversation, speculation, and a lot of buzz. For some time there's been rumors of Twitter being purchased by larger companies such as Google. With possibilities such as this people wonder what kind of changes this will bring about in the platform.

Currently there is no revenue created by Twitter. Would it become a membership site that required an entry fee? Will it follow the model of the other social networking sites by displaying advertising? What other changes would it undergo?

I hear the professionals in my circles expressing different expectations and concerns. Most of the talk is about how to improve Twitter. Many of the suggestions are in one way or another addressed by the many other Twitter applications or sister sites that work in concert with Twitter and its users.

Twitter needs this, that, or the other. It needs to be more customizable. It needs ways to divide followers into groups and subgroups. There need to be more functions available on your profile. A video application needs to be added. These are just some of the suggestions.

Sound familiar? After a tweak here and an app here, well what do you have? Another fullfledged social network the likes of My Space or Facebook. Could it be Twitter's simplicity that caused it to catch on so fast in the first place. If it does undergo these radical changes, will this spawn more copycats of the original?

I do believe Twitter implementing some form of monetization is inevitable and there will be changes, maybe for the better, maybe not. There will also be some other functions and features added I'm sure. One thing is also certain, the Twitter format and microblogging in general, will continue to be a valuable communication tool as it grows in popularity.
